Tec Diving in the Dominican RepublicDivingExcursionsCatalina Island or as the locals know it, Isla Catalina, is a 9.6 square kilometre uninhabited off shore wildlife reserve located five miles south of La Romana. You can see the Island from La Romana and Bayahibe The Taino Indians called this island "Toeya" although there is no clear evidence whether they actually inhabited the island or not. Christopher Columbus gave this island its current name in honour of Saint Catalina and Francis Drake and his crew was sitting on the Island for long time and organized the battle against Santo Domingo from there. Catalina Excursions half day for snorkelers and divers with UWESCUBAWe offer this service on 3 days a week. Monday Wednesday and Friday on a normal schedule, but we are also able to organize some private trips for groups. These half day trip starts at 9.00 am and you will be back in your hotel around 2.00pm. On this trip we offer drinks and snacks.On the excursion you have the possibility to go snorkelling on one of the best snorkel places we have in the Dominican Republic. For certified divers we go for two dives. The first dive will be a wall dive, max depth 130 ft or 40m and the second dive is a shallower one, to a max depth from 36ft or 12m. After this two dives the divers will have a short break on the island where you will get some soft drinks and chips. The snorkelling customers they are already there. Time on the island for snorkelers 2 hours and for the diving customers, depends on the dive time between 30 min to 1 hour.
